Stuart’s Opera House in Nelsonville, Ohio hosts singer, songwriter, and storyteller Todd Snider on Friday, June 22nd at 8:00pm. Matt McCormack will open the show! Rolling Stone calls Todd Snider “America’s sharpest musical storyteller” and we’d be hard pressed to disagree. After a few decades playing his songs all over the place and releasing over a dozen albums Snider continues to win over new fans with his wit, storytelling, and live performances including folks like Kris Kristofferson and John Prine. Tickets are on sale now at (740) 753-1924 or www.stuartsoperahouse.org.

Singer, songwriter, and storyteller, Todd Snider’s current biography starts off with “I started making up songs in 1986. I made an album in 1994. I also started a tour in 1994 and that tour is, in a way, still going.” For over 20 years now, Snider has been keeping that tour going, telling stories, playing songs, and making new fans along the way. He has made over a dozen albums including his most recent effort, 2016’s Eastside Bulldog, and has played with his band the Hard Working Americans (with members of Widespread Panic and Chris Robinson Brotherhood), and collaborated with many more musicians over the years. You don’t expect barrelhouse boogie woogie, straight up garage rock or power pop from the ratchety voice who gave you “Talkin’ Seattle Grunge Rock Blues,” the iconic East Nashville Skyline or the Great American Taxi-backed Time As We Know It: The Songs of Jerry Jeff Walker. Yet fresh from fronting the freewheeling social commentary of the jam-meets-Tom Petty Hard Working Americans – featuring Widespread Panic’s Dave Schools and Chris Robinson Brotherhood’s Neal Casal – Todd Snider’s Eastside Bulldog suggests there’s a new kinda rumble under the hood of the iconoclastic troubadour. Eastside Bulldog is romp, a stomp and one hell of a party. One listen to the careening refrain of ”chicks and cars and partying hard,” with Jen Gunderman’s pumping piano and Snider’s slamming surf guitar on the music business skewering “Hey, Pretty Boy,” it’s obvious that spun-out fishtailing is where it’s at for the man whose writing’s been hailed by John Prine, Jimmy Buffett, Kris Kristofferson, Keith Sykes and Guy Clark.Matt McCormack is a unique blend of Native American heritage, a soulful Memphis upbringing and his original Austin/San Antonio style of well-crafted songwriting. At age 17, McCormack got his first dose of rock-n-roll chaos as the opening act for Blind Melon. Soon after, McCormack really got his musical feet wet as the van driver for Todd Snider’s first US tour. Matt’s appreciation and affinity for songwriting stems from listening to Todd’s record collection. McCormack then moved to Austin, TX with childhood friend and current Miranda Lambert guitarist, Alex Weeden. Their band Choker Montana was a fierce mix of country rock and alternative folk that paved an original sound amongst the Austin, TX 6th Street scene. McCormack later went solo with his album Tonopah, soon landing him on the “Best Of” list on AAA station KGSR as well as being named on the ‘Best New Act’ poll in the Austin Chronicle. McCormack’s band often boasted powerful line-ups including Austin elites Will Sexton, Stephen Doster and Bill Carter. “Here We Go Again”, McCormack’s second effort was soon shelved due to a contractual agreement with KISS’ Gene Simmons. They collaborated on a soon-to-be released single titled “Pride.”
