As the weekend approaches, Marietta is preparing for a special First Friday that celebrates Marietta’s 230th birthday. The community is invited to join the celebration downtown, hosted by Marietta Main Street and sponsored by The Galley Restaurant.

First Fridays in Downtown Marietta feature extended shopping hours and special promotions. Downtown shops are open late, restaurants feature diverse menus, local musicians and artists are highlighted, and monthly themes offer a variety of unique, fun experiences for the whole community to enjoy.

For April’s First Friday, festivities kick off on the Armory lawn, with High Schools That Rock performing from 6:00 – 7:00 p.m., and local bakers and the Busy Bee food truck set up from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m.  The first 50 arrivals can enjoy a free cupcake and more treats will be available for purchase.  Marietta Main Street will also give out raffle tickets to the first 50 people for a chance to win prizes.

Special balloons will add a festive touch and shops and businesses will be open until 9:00 p.m.  Restaurants will offer specials, some stops will feature live music, and many shops will have special merchandise or promotions to commemorate Marietta’s 230th birthday.

Laura Pytlik, owner of Wit & Whimzy and First Friday committee chair, says that the downtown community is excited for this monthly event. “The merchants and business owners love seeing the local support for these events and we try to show our appreciation by rolling out the red carpet and giving visitors a reason to come downtown.  We want First Fridays to showcase our great small businesses and perhaps someone who is visiting for the first time will decide to become a regular downtown shopper.”
