Marietta Main Street jumped into the holiday spirit early this year with a Christmas in July fundraiser to purchase new holiday décor for Downtown Marietta. Replacing the candy canes will be pre-lit garland and wreaths, brightening downtown during the holiday season.

Although the campaign was scheduled to wrap up at the end of July, the organization has not quite reached their goal of funding 100 lamp posts, which can be sponsored at $250.00 each. Marietta Main Street is extending the campaign for one more week with hopes of meeting their goal.

“The new holiday decorations are truly a labor of love by our Hometown Holidays Committee,” said Cristie Thomas, Executive Director of Marietta Main Street. “We want community members to be filled with the holiday spirit when they’re shopping downtown and enjoying the events of the season.”

The new décor has been installed on the lamp post at the corner of Front and Butler Street as a preview. “These decorations are brighter and more vibrant than we’ve had in the past, so we hope they will not only light up our downtown streets but also the faces of locals and tourists alike,” said Thomas.

The organization currently has 75 poles adopted with an additional 12 poles pledged for adoption, still 13 shy from the goal of 100. All donors will be published on Main Street’s list of Christmas in July supporters. In addition, all donors who adopt a lamp post will have a gift tag installed on a downtown lamp post in their honor during the holiday season.
