On Thursday, August 1st the public will have a special opportunity to view the works of August James Weber, one of Marietta’s most prolific artists, featured for one night only in downtown Marietta. This art show is put on through collaboration between Marietta Main Street and The Castle Historic House Museum.

“August James Weber is one of the most significant artists to have called Marietta his hometown,” explains The Castle’s Collections Manager Wes Clarke. “Recognized today as a talented proponent of modernist techniques and forms, his artwork can be found in established art galleries across the region.”

The one-night exhibit will feature four paintings by August James Weber from The Castle’s collections, as well as a Weber painting owned by the Washington County Historical Society.  Additionally, paintings by several local artists believed to have been Weber’s students in Marietta will be featured, including views of local scenes and people, also from The Castle collections.  This evening exhibit will be an opportunity to see both the Weber and student work together for the first time in a public setting.

Interim Marietta Main Street Executive Director Cristie Thomas is excited by the opportunity for the community to enjoy this collaboration between both organizations.

“The history of art in Marietta is intertwined with the history of the growth of our community,” shared Thomas. “The work of talented artists from Marietta has been preserved and protected to be celebrated generation after generation. This one night only exhibit of the work of August James Weber is exactly that: a celebration of the relationship between history and art for our community, and we truly hope folks from across the Mid-Ohio Valley join us for this very special event.”

This exhibit will take place from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Perry & Associates located at 313 Second Street in Marietta. Attendance is free though donations at the door are encouraged. For questions please contact The Castle at 740-373-4180.
