The Board of Directors of the Ely Chapman Education Foundation have announced the appointment of Lori Ullmann as Executive Director, succeeding founder and visionary Alice Chapman.
The Ely Chapman Education Foundation was established in 1999 and has been an integral part of the Mid-Ohio Valley Community since. In that time hundreds of students have enjoyed success through the vision laid out by the Alice Chapman who passed away in December, 2020. Allice’s legacy and mission are set to continue through the sustainability plan set forth by Mrs. Chapman.
“I am honored to have been chosen for this position,” said Ullmann. “Alice left behind mission that I intend to see carried into the future” Ullmann emphasized. “Mrs. Chapman created a great framework for us to continue existing programs, explore new ones and to plan for the future.”
Ullmann has been at the helm just five short weeks but has had the opportunity to see Chapman’s vision in action. The SUNSHINE Learning Station was offering extended days for those students needing a place to focus on the academic and physical education for the two Marietta cohorts. The regular afterschool SUNSHINE Learning Station for Wood County Schools continued to operate as usual. “I have had the chance to observe and be a part of these programs firsthand. I am excited to see these students progress daily.”
“Lori has hit the ground running “said Gary Williams, Development Director for the Foundation. “She is fully engaged with the students and staff at Ely Chapman. I am impressed by her energy, her focus on the students, and her plans for the future of the Foundation.”
Ms. Ullmann will be continuing to work on the Sensational Summer Camp, getting counselors in place for that, overseeing the students’ environmental learning project and the student’s service-learning project.
“There will be more details to come about those projects very soon. I am hopeful that with all the vaccinations and with warmer weather, that restrictions might be lifted a bit so that this summer we can properly honor Alice and her contributions to our community. It is very important to me, to those that worked with her and to the many students and adults that she impacted through the Ely Chapman Education Foundation.”
