What is art? Arts educator and watercolorist John Clovis defined art as, “an act or form of personal expression.” This definition can be as inspiring and empowering as it is open-ended. Visual art takes many forms, and the content can be as diverse as the creative media that artists use to express their ideas and demonstrate their proficiency.
In celebration of the wide range of visual art, in all its media and forms, in celebration of artistic tradition and in celebration of artistic innovation, and in celebration of the artists of this greater Ohio Valley region, Riverside Artists Gallery, 219 Second Street, Marietta, invites visual artists, of all ages, to participate in its first annual Community Art Showcase, to open on July 7th, 2017 from 5-9 pm and remain on display at the gallery throughout the month of July.
This art exhibit is open to all regional visual artists of all ages and skill levels. The gallery seeks to include all art and craft media, including 2 dimensional art, 3 dimensional art, collage, digital or traditional photography, craft media, fiber arts, paper art, sculpture, jewelry, multi-media, installation art, and videography. To participate, artists can submit from one – three works, and artwork should be delivered during the first three weeks of June to the gallery during gallery business hours (Tuesday through Saturday from 10-5, Sunday from 12-5). Work must be delivered to the gallery ready to display. Artwork will be accepted until Friday, June 23rd. at 5pm. Jurying will take place on June 24th and 25th and there is no jury fee; however, as the gallery anticipates a large volume of submissions, there is a possibility that not every work submitted to this exhibit will be displayed.
As a way to shine a light on the talented artists of this region, and as a way to keep exploring the boundless options for visual communication and creativity, Riverside Artists Gallery encourages all regional visual artists to participate in this first annual Community Art Showcase. For more information, including questions about display, or submission or consignment information, please call the gallery at 740 376-0797 or stop by at 219 Second Street. If you are an artist, please plan to participate, and if you are a lover of the arts, please plan to join the gallery members and the artists of this region at the opening reception of this exhibit at Riverside Artists Gallery on Friday, July 7th, from 5-9 pm and throughout the month of July to celebrate artistry and visual expression.
