Last July, thanks to the support of the Marietta community, Marietta Main Street fundraised over $40,000 to purchase over 100 lit wreaths and garlands to decorate downtown lamp posts as well as a 22’ tree to stand proudly and shine brightly on the lawn of the Armory on Front Street.
This year, Main Street is once again seeking lamp post sponsorships to support downtown beautification efforts during the holiday season. And, as with previous years, the Hometown Holidays Committee is continuing to expand downtown décor to truly celebrate the spirit of the holidays with a Holiday Tree Walk in E. Muskingum Park.
“The holiday season in many ways brings out the best of our town. Residents head downtown to purchase gifts for loved ones, shop windows are decorated with the spirit of the season, downtown lamp posts are adorned with garlands and bright lights, and the warmth of community can be felt on every corner,” shared Cristie Thomas, Interim Executive Director of Marietta Main Street.
Marietta Main Street’s Hometown Holidays Committee has been hard at work planning for the Christmas in July holiday campaign since August 2018. Led by Main Street Board Member Debbie Cline, the Hometown Holidays Committee focuses solely on the energy and vibrancy of the holiday season.
“The holiday season is important to so many, and Main Street makes sure downtown puts our best foot forward.
Tim Glover, Marietta Main Street Board President
“Our Committee is comprised of local volunteers who want Marietta to shine as bright as we can during the holiday season,” shared Cline. “Our focus is to maintain the new decorations purchased last year as well as grow the types of experiences both local and tourists would enjoy. By doing that, we hope to drive tourism to Marietta and shoppers into downtown stores.”
Main Street is asking for individuals, businesses, and organizations to sponsor a downtown lamp post at $100 each and/or adopt a tree for $100 as part of their new Holiday Tree Walk.
Each sponsored lamp post will have a gift tag tied to it during the holiday season thanking the generous sponsor. The sponsor list will be included in the Main Street newsletter, social media, and website reaching well over 10,000 individuals in the Mid-Ohio Valley.
Each adopted tree in the Holiday Tree Walk will be viewed by downtown visitors the whole holiday season through, and will be individually celebrated through Main Street’s media channels.
“Main Street is only able to do what we do because of the financial contributions of our community. As a nonprofit organization with only one staff member, our volunteers work hard to raise every penny we earn,” shared Tim Glover, President of Marietta Main Street.
“The holiday season is important to so many, and Main Street makes sure downtown puts our best foot forward. Donations truly do go a very long way for us,” shared Glover
