BEVERLY, Ohio (Aug. 10, 2017)—For the third year in a row, BrAva Fight, the local nonprofit increasing childhood cancer awareness and raising funds for both affected local families and the search for a cure, held a golf outing. This year’s outing, which took place at Lakeside Golf Course in Beverly, welcomed 34 teams and raised $16,550.

Seventy-three local businesses served as hole sponsors for the event, each donating $100. Additionally, skills prizes for every hole were provided by business sponsors.

“The support of our local businesses and golfers, time and time again, just makes my heart swell,” said Traci Nichols, BrAva Fight president and mother of the late Ava Nichols, one of two local girls for whom the organization is named. “I also want to thank our amazing committee that works so hard to make events like this so successful. They are so dedicated to raising money to fight childhood cancer. This is the biggest group of go-getter women I know!”

Weather for the event was a perfect sunny-and-75-degree day. The winning team of Jared Arnold, Josh Arnold, Jason Canterbury and Coleton McCurdy shot a 56, 14 under for the par 70 course. The event also raised funds through a 50/50 raffle ball drop in which balls were sold, numbered and then released from the BrAva-themed Smith Concrete truck. Closest to the pin was Ball 29, sold to Rick Morgenstern. Many of the monetary prize winners donated winnings back to the organization.

Golfers were treated to a pulled pork lunch by Bar-B-Cutie, which generously provided the meal at no cost to the organization or golfers.

BrAva is a nonprofit organization. Its name is a combination of Bridget Crock and Ava Nichols, two local girls who faced the challenges of childhood cancer. In honor of Bridget and in memory of Ava, the organization seeks to help other families faced with the disease by providing funding and support. To date, BrAva has donated more than $58,000 to CureSearch and local families affected by childhood cancer.

Plans for a 2018 outing are underway, but details are not yet confirmed. To support BrAva’s efforts in the local community, please send monetary donations to BrAva, P.O. Box 535, Marietta, OH 45750.
