The Southeast Ohio Foodbank, a program of Hocking Athens Perry Community Action, will cut the ribbon for their new freezer system on Wednesday, October 11th. The public ceremony begins at 10:00AM in the warehouse and will end with a tour of the facility, which is located at 1005 CIC Drive in Logan, Ohio.
The walk-in freezer system measures 30’ x 60’, enough for 4 semi-truckloads of food! This project doubles the freezer capacity of the Foodbank. Since the previous freezer will be converted to a cooler, the expansion also triples their cooling capacity.
The expansion allows the Foodbank to distribute more fresh and frozen foods to families struggling with hunger in Southeast Ohio. These food items include produce, eggs, dairy, and frozen meats. The Foodbank serves a ten-county region where 500,000 individuals struggle with hunger, including over 17,000 children.
Speakers include Susan Beaudry with the Osteopathic Heritage Foundation of Nelsonville, as well as Doug Stanley, Executive Director of Hocking Athens Perry Community Action.
“We are excited to share this moment with our community. Thanks to their support, our Foodbank is able to better serve its ten county region,” says Doug Stanley, Executive Director of Hocking Athens Perry Community Action.
Funding support for the expansion comes from numerous community partners and local foundations including Walmart Foundation, C&S Wholesale Grocers, CareSource Foundation, Ohio Children’s Foundation, The Athens County Foundation, Osteopathic Heritage Foundation of Nelsonville, Rocky Community Improvement Fund, South Central Power Company Foundation, Marietta Community Foundation, Meals on Wheels, Red Nose Day Fund, Hunger Solutions, funding raised from the 2016 Bounty on the Bricks event (including matching funds from Sisters Health Foundation and the Osteopathic Heritage Foundation of Nelsonville), and several private donors. Good Builders, Inc., served as the contractors for this project.
