Today is the day you can multiply the impact of your gift to your favorite nonprofits working right here in the Mid-Ohio Valley! Your donations on May 7th through www.GiveLocalMOV.org enable your favorite nonprofits to earn significant matching funds and cash prizes.

Give Local MOV is powered by the Parkersburg Area Community Foundation & Regional Affiliates (PACF) which provides the secure online giving platform, underwrites campaign costs, and provides education for its nonprofit partners. Many generous community supporters, led by Superior Toyota, supplied the critical matching funds. In addition to the matching funds, hourly cash prizes sponsored by various local businesses reward nonprofits whose supporters contribute throughout the day.

These funds come at a crucial time of year for many local nonprofits’ budgets.

“Give Local MOV provides an opportunity for our local nonprofit organizations and other important community causes to receive funds at a time of year when typically, donations are slower (gifts usually pick up during the holiday season in November and January),” said Julie Posey,
PACF’s Development and Communications Officer. “So, these funds come at a crucial time of year for many local nonprofits’ budgets.”

This is PACF’s sixth year organizing and hosting Give Local MOV.  “We are excited to introduce, this year, a new online giving portal that really allows our local nonprofits to highlight and showcase their work and missions,” said Julie. “In addition, the new portal is user-friendly and allows our donors to truly customize their donation.”

In order to help millennial generation and subsequent generations to participate in philanthropy, it’s important to make giving accessible through the Internet.

Julie says this project also helps the community as well as local nonprofits to become more comfortable with online giving. “Our next generation uses the internet for everything; in order to help millennial generation and subsequent generations to participate in philanthropy, it’s important to make giving accessible through the Internet,” she said. Give Local MOV is a great way for nonprofits to better understand how to use online giving to complement their other fundraising strategies and to get their messages out to our community about the great work that they are doing to bring a better quality of life for our region.

The 50 nonprofits participating in Give Local MOV are initially assigned a share of the matching funds, then, donors who contribute online May 7th will have their gifts matched 1:1 up to the allotted share. Should any organizations not claim their full allocation of matching funds after the 24 hours, the PACF then proportionately allocates the remaining funds among nonprofits that exceeded their initial share. Our region’s nonprofits address many important issues that affect our community; this is a once-a-year opportunity to help them in a big way!

The past five giving days have raised more than $1.2 million for our community, proving that much can be achieved when we work together.

Since the first Give Local MOV event in 2014, the campaign has grown each year. “We define growth and success not only in the total dollars raised, but the increase in participation from the community, and general community awareness,” said Julie. “The past five giving days have raised more than $1.2 million for our community, proving that much can be achieved when we work together.”

Give Local MOV encourages everyone in the community to consider being a philanthropist and it helps to maximize donors’ gifts of all sizes. “A $10 gift becomes at least $20, and so forth, depending on what an organization has available to it for challenge match funds,” Julie said. It’s a great way to encourage a more giving community and to let folks of all means take part in making a difference for many different organizations.

“Our event sponsors and the local donors who contribute are the critical factors in the success of Give Local MOV. The Foundation’s Board and Staff are proud to be part of such a giving community.”
