The beautiful Mountain State of West Virginia has been hit hard with flash flooding, leaving many without homes, food, and clothing. Many are wondering what we can do to help. Here’s a basic list we’ve been pulling together, in hopes that as many people as possible can send help in the most effective ways, possible. It is a beautiful thing to watch our community come together in this time of need to help our friends and neighbors in Southern West Virginia.

If you’d like to sign up to volunteer your time through Volunteer West Virginia, follow this link. At this time, they’re asking individuals to avoid attempting to help in-person, until the affected areas have been assessed. “As soon as road hazards are clear and needs are identified” the site says, “a volunteer coordinator will contact you to schedule a volunteer shift or overnight deployment.” You can also call the WV Voluntary Organizations Active in Disaster at 304-558-0111 for more information on where help is needed, or make a donation to help continue their efforts. The Red Cross need volunteers to help with shelters, especially during this week. You can call 304-340-3650 and ask to speak to Shannon Tyler.

Financial donations go a long way for disaster relief, especially when needs change quickly. You can send monetary donations to the WV Chapter of the Red Cross, here – or you can very easily and quickly make a $10 donation by texting “REDCROSS” to 90999 (the $10 will be billed to the cell phone account.) United Way of Southern West Virginia’s office is closed while staff volunteer, but they are accepting and organizing donations – you can text “Goal17” to 71777, or visit their website.

The Southern West Virginia Emergency Flood group has organized an Amazon registry for flood victims where you can purchase items in need that will be shipped directly to their Medical Center in Rainelle, WV.

Additionally, there are individuals planning trips with donations:
