The Adelphia Music Hall will be hosting the second annual First Settlement Festival this Saturday, April 6, 2019. Live music will start at The Adelphia with Micah Kesselring at noon and will carry through nonstop until midnight. Other musicians playing the Adelphia stage include Joshua Lee, Hayfield and Crow, Cutler Station, and OYO. Ona will take the stage at 9 PM and headliner The Blackfoot Gypsies will play from 10:30-midnight. Festival participants can come and go from The Adelphia all day long, which means breaks can be taken to eat lunch at The Galley or shop in the amazing downtown boutique shops that will be open.

“We were overwhelmed with the warm reception that we received from all of the downtown businesses last year,” said Nate Shahan, First Settlement Festival founder. “It was totally beyond any of our expectations! That is one of the major reasons for trying to expand the festival and make it a free event to attend, as we want to showcase all that historic Marietta has to offer.”

There will also be live music throughout downtown at designated “busk stops.” The schedule for this segment of the festival is as follows:

  • 12:00-12:30: Jesse Forrest at Green Acres
  • 12:30-1:00 Jake Dunn at Wit & Whimzy
  • 1:00-1:30: Ben Davis Jr. at Sugar Maple Boutique
  • 1:30-2:00: Matt Petty at Just A Jar
  • 2:00-2:30: Jesse Forrest at The Stage Door
  • 2:30-3:00: Jake Dunn at Over the Moon
  • 3:00-3:30: Jake Eddy at Green Acres
  • 3:30-4:00: Ben Davis Jr at Wit & Whimzy
  • 4:00-4:30: Matt Petty at Sugar Maple Boutique
  • 4:30-5:00: Lou Poster at Just A Jar

First Settlement Fest primarily features local musicians from the greater Mid-Ohio Valley region. “There is an immense amount of musical talent in the area, so much so that we would need two main stages just to break the surface!” said Nate. “We want to make sure that people in the area know this as well.” In additional to local talent, bands are participating from Huntington, WV., Central Ohio, and Nashville.

While many of the bands participated last year, Cutler Station, Micah Kesselring, Ben Davis Jr. and the Revelry, The Settlement, Hayfield and Crow, Joshua Lee, Jake Eddy, Ona, and The Blackfoot Gypsies are all new this year.

The First Settlement Festival has expanded this year thanks to corporate sponsors Marietta Dental Group, Tenney & Associates, and Peoples Bank as well as in-kind sponsors Clayman & Associates and Signality Signs & Graphics.

“We could not be more excited to be hosting this festival for a second consecutive year,” said Nate. “We started this last year as a way to celebrate Marietta’s birthday, and this year it carries extra significance with the pending publication of David McCullough’s book. It’s going to be a great weekend to celebrate and enjoy our historic town.”
