On Friday, January 12, 2018, the Harmar Rowing Club, Inc. (HRC) and Marietta Tiger Navy (Marietta High School Crew) suffered a huge setback when river flooding combined with ice flow carried away 180’ of dock. The ice flows on the Muskingum River caused the cable anchors to break and forced the dock down the river. Unfortunately, they could not be recovered and were not covered by insurance.
MHS Tiger Navy Crew teams have already started conditioning for spring and the docks are essential for them to be able to get onto the water once the weather and river conditions permit. The goal is to have replacement docking in place by March 1st to allow the rowers to practice on the river and attend their first meet on March 31st.
The impact of the team, team families, and traveling teams on our downtown community far surpasses any marketing dollar that we have spent.

Annually the MHS Tiger Navy hosts the Lindamood Regatta in Marietta, which is planned for April 7, 2018 and the docks must be replaced for this event to occur as scheduled. The cost to reconstruct the docks is approximately $30,000. Typical docks unfortunately do not meet the needs of crew teams. The special boats that are rowed in crew require a specifically designed dock system that has a lower flotation height, making the cost for replacement higher than what would be considered a normal dock.
The Tiger Navy shared that they have the power and willingness of volunteers and parents to begin rebuilding. However, this rebuilding cannot happen without the financial support of the community and its members. In supporting the Dock Rebuilding Project, we will be helping to support the tradition that is Tiger Navy, the future of rowing at Marietta High School, and the Marietta community.
When we, at Over the Moon Pub & Pizza heard about the untimely demise of the docks we decided to partner with the Tiger Navy/Harmar Rowing Club once again, as we have in the past, to help raise funds to keep the club rowing. The impact of the team, team families, and traveling teams on our downtown community far surpasses any marketing dollar that we have spent. In return for our fundraising efforts, we get people in the door and more taste buds on our pizza. That little bit of goodwill gets a lot tastier, when you add more avid Over the Moon fans to the mix, but more importantly the community strengthens and the Tiger Navy will row on.
