This Autumn, Riverside Artists Gallery, 219 Second St. in Marietta is pleased to present two types of art classes to bring inspiration into your life: Saturday Dates to Create (special one-day workshops) and Gallery Art Classes, an extended series of art lessons in various techniques throughout the coming fall. All courses will take place in the Riverside Artists Gallery classroom, unless otherwise noted.
Date to Create events are one-time “Make and Take” workshops that are set up to explore a single technique, with added plus of giving the student a finished work of art as a goal for the workshop. These are ideal for the individual, or for friends and family members to take and enjoy a few hours together while learning something new. Dates to Create include Hypertufa Pots from 10-12 on Sat. 9/30, (in conjunction with Greenleaf Landscapes), where students will create molded concrete planters for flowers and greenery (cost $40); Found Object Sculpture from 10-12 on Saturday 10/7, where principles of three dimensional design are explored while students repurpose natural and mechanical items (Cost $30); Alcohol Ink Ceramic Tiles, from 6:30-8:30 pm on Tues., 10/10, where students explore the liquid color potential of alcohol-based inks and create a ceramic tile to treasure and display (Cost $25), Felting, from 10-12 on Sat. 11/11. where students will explore the unique properties of wool to create functional coasters with a Christmas theme (Cost $40), and finally, Stained Glass Gifts, all day from 10:00-3:00, on Saturday, 11/18, which is an intensive introduction to the techniques of stained glass while students construct stained glass ornaments (Cost $40). No prior technical experience is required for any of these workshops, and all the materials are provided, although students may bring their own “found objects” if desired.
In keeping with the theme of Back To School, the gallery’s artists will also offer ongoing Gallery Art Classes for those who want a bit more mastery. Enjoy Watercolor, Drawing, Painting on Canvas, and even participate in Art Camp for Adults, where a variety of art experiences will be explored. Watercolor class (for non-beginners) starts on Thursday, August 31st, (1-4pm) and is ongoing through the fall. Students can participate in one or more sessions (fee is $25 per session). Art Camp for Adults is a five-day series of art lessons in multiple art techniques, and extends from Sunday Sept 24th (2-4pm), Monday Sept. 25th-Thurs. Sept. 28th (fee is $125 for all days, and all materials are included). Drawing class is open to experienced artists as well as beginners, with an emphasis on sharpening drawing skills. This course begins on Wed. 10/6, and extends for 6 weeks, and continues each Wed, from 12:30-2 pm. A materials list will be given out at the first class.
