As the wind chill continues to drop and snow is ever present on our weekly forecast, it becomes harder and harder to leave the warmth of our beds each morning. Inch by inch the ground is covered in fresh, powdery snow, discouraging us from venturing into the frozen world outside. So we snuggle up, we binge watch our favorite Netflix shows on queue, and we sleep, dreaming of spring flowers and sunny skies.

February may be the shortest month of the year, but these four weeks can seem never-ending with no sign of Spring in sight. Don’t let this month fly by like the time between your snooze alarms. Let’s take advantage of our time indoors and put it to good use. Whether you catch up on your reading list, finally renovate that guest bathroom, or pick up a new hobby you’ve been wanting to try, there are plenty of ways to occupy your time and avoid symptoms of cabin fever. This may not be the best month to start training for a 5k, but it is a great time to experiment in the kitchen and whip up a few new, healthy favorites. Or, take some time to catch up with old friends the old fashioned way.

If you’re feeling brave, throw on a sweater (or three) and witness the world renewing itself. Hiking trails are fairly deserted this time of year, but no less beautiful. The soft stillness of a snow-covered forest or an iced-over waterfall is worth a pair of rosy cheeks. It will only make that steaming cup of hot chocolate waiting for you back at home all the more rewarding.
