A short life well lived can leave a legacy that spans beyond the limit of earthly years. Alex Miller – Marietta High School graduate, Marietta College alumnus and local native working in Oklahoma as a Petroleum Engineer — lived such a life.

An active outdoorsman, Alex was taught by his father to hunt, fish and shoot for sport. A Black Belt in Shao-Lin, Triathlon competitor, and even a skilled guitarist — Alex’s young life was definitely full. But it was his faith and church that held the highest positions in his life, and he was a small group leader at Memorial Road Church of Christ in Oklahoma City.

Alex MillerAlex, an avid runner, died in 2011 after suffering a seizure just shy of his 26th birthday. His passing left a void in the lives of all who knew him, and his family determined that his memory would live on. In 2013, the Miller family established the Alex Miller Memorial 5k, and that first race drew more than 150 participants to the streets of Marietta. The proceeds from the race will help provide scholarships for students who, like Alex, are enrolled in the Petroleum Engineering program at Marietta College.

On April 12th, the second Alex Miller Memorial 5k will begin on the campus of Marietta College. People will run and walk the race for different reasons — healthy competition, exercise, or just to support a good cause. The people who knew Alex will be there for a larger purpose — to pay tribute to an outstanding young man, and honor the memory and life of one who touched so many.
